As we get older, we realize that the most important thing is to surround ourselves with good people. I spent many years in my teens and 20s figuring out the type of people I wanted to surround myself with. Through trial and error I think I'm finally starting to get it right. Dice and I both grew up in Los Angeles and I have always considered myself an American. But we are both so grateful that we were exposed to our Asian cultures from a young age (Dice is 1/2 Japanese and I am 1/2 Thai). Every couple has inside jokes derived from the various situations they've experienced together....about four years ago Dice and I had a drunken night together in New York City that he barely remembers. However, I remember it well because I had one drink vs. his multiple bottles of Shoju which inspired him to blab until the break of dawn about the difference between women and men. We don't always agree and the hardest part is respecting each other's opinion...so sometimes we just label it 'male-female' and let it go! For those of you who have been to our workshops, trainings and retreats, you know what our banter is like and for that, we apologize :) we look forward to bringing our banter to Charlotte for the second time! It's so good to be home! Upon our return we got to eat tasty, organic radishes from our daughter's organic gardening plot at school. Can you believe she grew these, along with many other fruits and vegetable, all by herself? Amazing! I don't remember 4th grade being this cool! Times have changed! I've always heard, 'relationships are hard work.' But have never fully understood what that meant until now. Before I met Dice, I had always put either my work or daughter first and never cared enough about a relationship to 'work for it'. Dice and I have an incredible connection and I have always felt like that was enough. But as we get busy with our kids and work, sometimes we forget to reconnect with one another. For me, it has also been exceptionally challenging to 'get my groove back' after the birth of my son, Sydney (hopefully that's not too much info). The past month we have had the time to reconnect and remember why we love each other. Now, it's off to couples counseling before we head off to Helsinki & Frankfurt!
