Day 3 of #FitFlowChallenge is a “rocky” boat pose, Navasana, sequence. Check out my bestie's page @mackenzieyoga for the video. Personally, I've always loved corework but never really enjoyed Navasana because I didn't really understand it. My hip flexors would burn and I had pain in my low back. But when I finally found the right angle and engagement for the pose, it became and exciting challenge! This movement is part of “Day 5 30 min Yoga” from the CoreFit plan in our FitFlow bundle. Day 2 of #FitFlowChallenge is a jump squat. It was my bestie @mackenzieyoga who taught me how to do this correctly in order to keep my knees safe. To perform a jump squat you start with your feet hips width apart, bend your knees as you sit the hips back and down, and jump explosively into the air. When you land, go back the same way you came and distribute the weight from the ball of the foot to the heal. Then you'll be ready to explode off the ball the foot again. In yoga we never use our calves and definitely not explosively. So, if you’re new to explosive movement don’t be shocked if your calves are super sore tomorrow!! I love to pair this workout with my favorite upbeat tunes too! You'd be surprised at what @mackenzieyoga and I listen to when we're together. The last time she was in LA, we rapped (a product of growing up in the early 90's) to 'Regulators' by Warren G and Nate Dog. It was hilarious to say the least. It's so easy to stay in a bad mood and blame someone else (in my case, my husband @diceyoga) for my state of mind. But that isn't a healthy way of living. Being responsible for my own actions and feelings has been the greatest lesson I've learned through practicing Acro Yoga. Last year, when I was flying from LA to Sydney, an air hostess spilled boiling water on my knee and I suffered 2nd degree burns. It was terribly painful but I was most worried about the scar. I laugh every time I see this pic in my photo album on my phone. I've been wanting to post it but have always felt there were too many funny things about it. Weird arm position and funny leg position to name a couple but I also remember wishing I had a nice mat for my super bony butt. My favorite mat right now is @yoyo_mats, the world's only self-rolling fitness and yoga mat @kickstarter Stays flat while in use and stays rolled up for easy transportation and storage! 11 years ago today at exactly 12.47pm, my daughter, Taylor was born and my world was turned upside down. I find out I was pregnant in the middle of promoting my last album in Thailand. All I had known for 10 years was music & partying (with some schooling involved). I was excited to become a mom but also scared because I always felt that kids didn't like me...or I didn't like kids. I even bought a pair of gloves for diaper changes before she was born. But the moment I held her, it was like a switch went off and I knew immediately what my calling was in life...to be her mother. When I say my world was turned upside down, I mean it in the best of ways. It's like when you have a bunch of crap in your pockets or purse and you just empty it out and fill it with things that serve you. Being a parent is not easy because everything that you do and all that you are effects your kids. But, by staying present, being accountable for my actions, and having an honest and loving daughter like Taylor who calls me out of my ridiculousness, I am learning moment by moment the beauty of family. Taylor is the sweetest and most hilarious person I know and today I am so grateful to be her mom. Happy birthday my love @tjc_creative ️ U SO MUCH!
