SELFLESS SELFIE CELEBRATION / CHALLENGE DAY 6 Pose : Virabhadrasana/Warrior 2 Yogi : Peter Smyth (My Dad) Both of my parents are entrepreneurs. For as long as I can remember they've worked from home and are always reinventing themselves. Life isn't always peachy and there have definitely been a number of ups and downs both financially and personally. But my father, Peter has always kept a positive attitude, worked his butt off, and persevered. Since he is an athlete (ex rugby player and surfer) he tends to approach his yoga practice that way. Clenching his jaw and groaning through knee pain in various poses. I remember when @RobertSturman took this shot. I was adjusting his Vira 2 so his knee was supported and reminding him to 'soften and ease' into the pose rather than muscle it. On the flip side, he reminds me to work my butt off for my dreams and to rise up, even when you're knocked down. We've always balanced each other out that way. Thanks Dad! Next steps... 1. SELFLESS SELFIE CELEBRATION / CHALLENGE DAY 2 Pose : any backbend Yogi : @Glitzygolf Golf and Bri went to high school together in Bangkok, Thailand and were recently reconnected at a yoga conference a couple years ago. At the time, Golf was suffering from depression and body image issues. She told us a story about a yoga teacher that told her she could never do yoga because she didn't fit the mold of a skinny, size 0 yoga teacher. Through our travels we've met quite a few people who felt and still feel intimidated by public yoga classes. We believe that the Yoga practice is for everyone...all shapes, sizes, colors, ages and genders! We are so proud of Golf because she didn't let anybody get her down. She completed her yoga teacher training last year and is currently teaching yoga classes and workshops for curvy girls in Bangkok, Thailand and inspiring us all to embrace who we are and love our bodies! The SELFLESS SELFIE CELEBRATION / CHALLENGE is starting! Day 1 (tomorrow), we are celebrating the pose REVERSE WARRIOR. This shot was taken in Vietnam by fellow co-host, @robertsturman . The yogi we are celebrating is Pam Smyth, my (Bri's) 67 year old mom! My mom has always and continues to inspire me and I am so grateful she practices yoga! There are many benefits to this simple yet effective pose...stretching the hip flexors and obliques to name a few. Mom loves this pose because it feels so good to take a deep breath in! Now it's your turn! As a participant, your job will be to find a person to photograph in the pose and post their picture. Show them love and let them be the focus! This will nourish both of you. Please use the hashtag #selflesscelebration make sure to follow all the hosts, and repost this picture. Celebration RECAP The concept is simple but so nourishing and important. Because people post so many images of themselves, we would like to inspire our community to consider designating one image a day, beginning on FEBRUARY 1, celebrating someone else. We are incredibly excited to announce the #SelflessCelebration. Our hosts for the challenge are @bryceyoga @robertsturman @ashikagogna @geraldsaluti and @yulady. We have some incredible prizes lines up for the winners. But first to how the challenge will work! Our hosts consist of 5 talented yoga teachers and one extraordinary yoga photographer. The concept is simple but so nourishing and important. Each day we post pictures of ourselves on IG doing yoga and this inspires others to try new things. How powerful to post a picture of someone else instead celebrating yoga! It not only empowers that person, but also allows the one behind the camera to see yoga differently, to celebrate the subject posing and shine light on them for all to see, especially themselves. We are all beautiful and we want to celebrate this fact! So here are the nuts and bolts of how it will work. The challenge will run from 2/1-2/10. Each day one of the yoga teacher hosts will pick a pose and post a picture of someone in that day's pose (usually posted the night before) with a description of the pose and its benefits. @robertsturman will post some excellent pointers each day on how best to photograph the pose. That will be the pose for the day. As a participant your job will be to find a person to photograph in the pose and post their picture. Show them love and let them be the focus! I learned a long time ago, when I use to blame everyone else for my problems, that I am responsible for everything that happens in my life. The moment I realized that, things started to change for the better. I stopped hurting the people around me, stopped looking for fault in others, and finally began to work on myself. It will always be a work in progress but I wake up each morning with the plan to be the best person I can be for my family, friends, and fellow yogis. Love to you all - Bri;
