#TBT My first day ever of acting shooting "The Mummy Returns". Middle of the Sahara Desert. 115+ degrees. The entire first 10min of the movie was based on my character named The Scorpion King, so no pressure... I was told "don't use ice in your drinks when you go over there". Of course like a know it all idiot in my 20's, the first thing I do when I land is ask for ice in my soda. Woke up the next day - my first day of shooting and was as sick as a mangy junkyard dog. I was so sick I literally had things coming out of my body I could not identify, nor have I ever seen since. Just let that fun visual sink in... Went to set and powered thru. In between the action sequences, the crew would have to cover me in blankets because I was shivering cold - and again, we were in the middle of the f*cking Sahara Desert. I remember thinking to myself while covered up in blankets, "Wow my very first movie and I'm gonna kick the bucket in the middle of the desert. Great job DJ." Director Stephen Summers came over and asked if he should call a helicopter to transport me to the hospital. I said "Nah, let's shoot". We got the shots we needed that day to successfully tell the movie's story. And the ironic part of that crazy day in the desert of me pushing thru my pain (which could've easily gone horribly wrong;), was little to my knowledge - a few days later Universal Studios watched the footage from that day (Ron Meyer, Stacey Snider, Kevin Misher and Scott Stuber) and said "We should make a movie based off of Rock's character, The Scorpion King." That's exactly what we did. Got lucky, the movie broke box office records and it launched my career. Push thru your pain, 'cause sometimes there's great success on the other side. Even if you can't identify what's exiting your body. Fun. ️; -

World I want to introduce you to a very special young man. This is 16yr old Fernando. A junior at Coosa High School in Rome, GA. He was diagnosed with cancer in the 6th grade. That same year his left leg had to be amputated, and by his 9th grade year he had to remove a tumor due to cancer spreading. Oct 2015 his left arm was amputated due to a tumor found in his upper arm. On Feb 24th, 2016 Fernando got word that cancer had spread to his left lung and this would be his final fight. One of his final wishes was to meet me. We did just that this past Saturday, on my set. In Atlanta, GA. This kid's perspective on life knocked me off my feet. Smile on his face, funny as hell, sincere and calm. Easily one of the coolest kids I've ever met and a meeting I'll never forget. Finally got to bed that night 'bout 3am and thought about my meeting w/ Fernando. Thought what a powerful reminder to be as grateful as we can be, love the heck outta our family and friends and squeeze every bit out of life possible, 'cause we never know what's around the corner. Fernando had a special shirt made for me. On the front reads "Fernando's Fight. Strength, Courage, Determination" and on the back, "The People's Champ". He embodies every word on that shirt - especially The People's Champ. That's exactly what you are buddy, a Champion of the people, by inspiring all those around you. Including me. When I surprised Maleak at the Pediatric Specialty Ward in Savannah, he ran into my arms and gave me a huge hug. Now I'm not just talkin' about any kind of hug... this boy gave me a BEAR HUG. He's already stronger than I'll ever be, but physically he gave me the hug of all hugs. Trust me, I'm a hugger so I know. So good to spend some time with Maleak and his mama. Talked about everything from my movies, wrestling to how important it is that he eat all of his food. Let's get that appetite up buddy. I say it often and its true. I'm a lucky lucky dude to be able to do what I do and reactions and meetings like this one with Maleak will always be the best part of fame. You stay strong big man. Flew to Atlanta to shoot a big surprise for you guys for the end of @CentralIntelligence. Thank you my ace director @rawsonthurber and my road dawg @kevinhart4real and a big THANK YOU to our hard working crew putting in those long hours over the weekend with us. Promise we'll make a movie to be proud of. Now back to Savannah to continue shooting #BAYWATCH. For the record I'm looking off camera 'cause I thought I saw a walking pizza which is my daily mirage while I'm on this bullshit hardcore diet. 🏾; -
So I called an audible and went to visit Christopher. Glad we did... While I was visiting the Pediatric Specialty Ward surprising the kids, I got word from my team that there was a mom who was pleading with our production staff, that I go upstairs to her son's room to give him a much needed big surprise. Since he's older he's in the main hospital and not in pediatric care. We were shooting #BAYWATCH scenes outside of the hospital, but instead of heading back to shoot I called the audible, put production on hold and went upstairs to see this young man. I walked in and his smile lit up the room! And I mean lit that room up!;) We talked for a while about his family, his school and how hard he's working to eventually graduate AND we talked about how COOL all his scars are from his multiple surgeries - from his head to his chest - those scars are badges of honor and the reminder of how beyond tough this kid is. Right before I left his mom looked at him and said, "Christopher I can't give you anything, but I'm so happy I could give you this today..." and she started to breakdown, which was captured in this pic. Made me think to give so much credit to these parents who would do anything to take their kid's pain away and ANYTHING to bring a smile to their faces. Glad this mom brought a smile to Christopher's face. And glad I got a chance to shake the hand of this very strong and inspiring young man. Stay strong Christopher and show them scars with pride. To become a #BAYWATCH Lifeguard we created an unforgiving obstacle course that was inspired by American Ninja Warrior meets World's Strongest Man. Idea that you will be physically and mentally tested to the limits, all while staying focused and being as calm as possible in extremely stressful situations so you're always able to accomplish the most important thing - hit the water and make the save. All that said, it still begs one important question... I surprised the children at Savannah's Pediatric Specialty Ward aaaaand look at the concentration on lil' Aiden's face!🏾. We shot #BAYWATCH scenes at Memorial Health Hospital and thought I'd pop up to the ward. Awesome experience and THANK YOU to all the hard working and caring staff who helped make this visit possible. To all the kids I met - you guys keep smiling and staying strong. All the mamas and daddy's I met, y'all stay strong too. Little things like this (may sound corny:), will always be the best part of my job. And good Lord I wish I had Aiden's concentration when I was in my high school math classes. I wouldn't have failed Algebra twice. 🏾🏾; -

LINK IS IN MY BIO ・・・ My boy @therock is a rather noteworthy source of inspiration for me. Yeah, he's a mega movie star, but that's not what impresses me about him. What does is his ability to bring relentless FOCUS to anything he chooses to do. Whether it's 4:00 am cardio workouts, starting new companies or helping brands elevate their profile, the guy is an absolute machine. Working hard and staying focused has a tendency to increase the likelihood of being successful in this world. That's an important mindset I plan on instilling into my son when he arrives soon. Ah, the bag...it's one of @therock 's latest collaborations with @underarmour He claims to have created the Greatest Bag Of All Time (GBOAT), so I figured I'd give it a whirl. Not gonna lie, it's pretty bad ass. Love how it's capable of being both a duffle bag AND backpack. Sure, it'll be used for the gym, but guess how it will likely be used first? #BAYWATCH lifeguards are the fireman of the beach. I did 100 (over hand wide grip) pull ups in a row and @zacefron did 99. Valiant effort from the kid, but the OG pulled thru. For now, until he dusts me in the speed round. We take our jobs extremely serious and we're the best of the best.
