I laugh every time I see this pic in my photo album on my phone. I've been wanting to post it but have always felt there were too many funny things about it. Weird arm position and funny leg position to name a couple but I also remember wishing I had a nice mat for my super bony butt. My favorite mat right now is @yoyo_mats, the world's only self-rolling fitness and yoga mat @kickstarter Stays flat while in use and stays rolled up for easy transportation and storage! 11 years ago today at exactly 12.47pm, my daughter, Taylor was born and my world was turned upside down. I find out I was pregnant in the middle of promoting my last album in Thailand. All I had known for 10 years was music & partying (with some schooling involved). I was excited to become a mom but also scared because I always felt that kids didn't like me...or I didn't like kids. I even bought a pair of gloves for diaper changes before she was born. But the moment I held her, it was like a switch went off and I knew immediately what my calling was in life...to be her mother. When I say my world was turned upside down, I mean it in the best of ways. It's like when you have a bunch of crap in your pockets or purse and you just empty it out and fill it with things that serve you. Being a parent is not easy because everything that you do and all that you are effects your kids. But, by staying present, being accountable for my actions, and having an honest and loving daughter like Taylor who calls me out of my ridiculousness, I am learning moment by moment the beauty of family. Taylor is the sweetest and most hilarious person I know and today I am so grateful to be her mom. Happy birthday my love @tjc_creative ️ U SO MUCH! Creating a gratitude list is a great way to stay positive and present. We try to do this every day but haven't quite succeeded. So, although this is a huge commitment, we are planning on posting "one thing we are grateful for in the last 24 hours" EVERYDAY. #gratitudelist365 WHO'S IN? It's been a crazy month for our family. Taylor is turning 11 and Sydney started preschool. It's such a strange feeling when your kids need you less. The subconscious part of me is proud of their independence but what rises to the surface is sadness in the form of a ball in my throat that manifests in tears...especially when I look at this photo. It's weird to be sad and happy at the same time but beautiful to be present through it. Makes me want to add another kiddo to this incredible family. Who else is thinking about having another? Whether it's through small moments of clarity in the mind or breakthroughs in our physical practice, it is being present in those tiny moments that truly makes life great. Because when we are present we can actually see, feel, and appreciate the beauty rather than dwelling in the darkness of our minds. So make that time to practice yoga...maybe even with us in Woerthersee! When we first visited @meinwoerthersee we were amazed at the incredible beauty and serenity that surrounded us. It really is the perfect setting for yoga, nature, health and wellness. Thanks to a number of yogis coming together, we are excited to be co-teaching this first Yoga retreat in Worthersee, Austria this October 7-11. Bri and I have been lucky enough to call many different yogis our teachers. One of our all-time favorites will always be @raghunathyogi. If you haven't had the chance to get to one of his workshops/retreats/classes, you're severely missing out. He's a yogi, father, husband, teacher and good friend. His classes have airtime, but he knows how to bring home the spirituality and the Bhakti. He happens to be quite the musician as well. Check out his Kirtan on iTunes!!! When I first started practicing Yoga, it was mainly about me. My well being, my self care, a solo practice. But Yoga is so much more to me now. It is far beyond a physical practice, it is a way of life that reminds me to stay present, be kind, be compassionate, and to always share the love that the practice builds in my heart with my loved ones.
