@djpoom : The Work Ethic… Coming to work in Japan this time around has been amazingly fun as usual. I love everything about this country, the food, the cities, the technology, the history, the culture but most of all I love the People. The Japanese are generally very humble, polite and kind hearted. But what intrigues me the most is their attitude towards work, attentions to details and relentless pursued for perfection. I heard that average response time of the police from taking a distress call to dispatching a help unit and reaching the caller is within 5 minutes! That is amazingly quick. And they are able to do so because in each police station there will be 3 officers assigned to taking ONE single call. The first officer will do the talking, asking for all the relevant necessary information. The second officer will concentrate on listening and writing down all the important details. Whilst all this is happening the third officer will dispatch a help unit, passing on all the information along the way, as the unit rushes towards the caller. Many times they will arrive before the caller puts down the PHONE!! Of course when I heard this I was gob smacked because I live in a city where Pizza is delivered to my house faster than a police unit from a distressed call. Despite this, the Japanese are very unhappy with this response time because their personal best used to average around 3.30 minutes. Because in the past, people used to call from their homes or a public pay phone therefore it was easy to pin point the exact location of the caller. Now with the growing use of mobile phones, explaining their whereabouts meant taking MORE precious time. So in order to shave their lighting response time back down again they have numbered every single electricity/ lamp posts and public vending machines so that no matter where you are all you need to do is just read out the number of the lamp post next to you and the police will know exactly where to go. Amazing…
