@marutaro : The "crabbies"
In 1960s, landscape backpacks were the only options of large backpacks with big capacity allowing long-term travel and full scaled mountain climbing.
Since the width of those backpacks were about 80cm, people were not able to pass gates and doorways by walking straight normally, but had to walk horizontally like a crab. Plus, the figure of people carrying such big backpacks also looked like crabs as well.
Thus, that is how the name was born.
